Novar Cider
The Challenge
Based in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, Novar Cider, is the most northerly cider producer in the UK. They wanted a new brand identity and label design that reflected its premium, award-winning quality and stood out on crowded shelves. The brief called for a clean, minimalist visual identity that communicated the brand’s sophistication and unique northerly origins while adhering to modern printing specifications.
The Audience
The target audience included craft cider enthusiasts, premium drinkers, and design-conscious consumers who value quality, authenticity, and originality. These are people looking for beverages that tell a story and make a statement — whether discovering something new in-store or choosing a drink to serve at social occasions.
Multiple illustration styles and colour palettes were considered before we began to
narrow down the preferred choices and a design that felt right for the brand.
Insight
Craft drinkers are drawn to brands that balance heritage and modernity. Novar’s extreme northern location is a point of pride and a differentiator, but it needed to be communicated subtly, with elegance and clarity, rather than through gimmicks. A clean, refined design could convey sophistication while subtly referencing the brand’s remote origins. It’s about attitude not lattitude.
The Result
The final design delivered a refined, premium look that elevated the brand above standard cider offerings. Multiple illustration styles and palettes were explored to ensure alignment with the brand’s identity. The resulting label and visual identity not only communicated Novar’s quality and northern heritage but also enhanced shelf presence, supporting stronger brand recognition and consumer appeal. The cohesive VI extended across packaging, promotional materials, and merchandising, ensuring a consistent, high-end brand experience.
